The Trattoria del Caveoso is via Bruno Buozzi, located in the ‘Sasso Caveoso’ – the rocky caves at the heart of Matera’s famous Sassi district.
The trattoria is open all year round. We close on Sunday evenings and Mondays.
The restaurant can seat 50 inside and 12 outside.
We accept all credit cards.


The Sasso Caveoso
This atmospheric troglodyte city has been inhabited since prehistoric times and once within its walls you can appreciate the unique history which started with small neolithic dwellings and over time developed into the vast cities of Civita and Sassi. This ancient place once again has a bright future thanks both to the numerous tourists who visit and to its starring role in one of the greatest films in recent cinematic history – Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ.
